BEIJING ‘BINARA’ ANG US SA PANINIRA SA ECONOMIC TIES NG PH-CHINA

INAKUSAHAN ng Chinese embassy ang isang top US diplomat na “sinisiraan” ang economic cooperation sa pagitan ng China at Pilipinas dahil muli itong nagbabala na palalawigin ang access ng Washington sa military base ng Maynila na seryosong mapanganib sa kapayapaan at katatagan ng rehiyon.

Ito ang naging tugon ng embahada sa naging pahayag ni US State Department Undersecretary for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland sa mga piling reporter sa kanyang pagbisita sa Pilipinas at sinabing apat na karagdagang Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) sites ang magdadala ng mga oportunidad sa ekonomiya at trabaho sa Pilipinas.

“Such remarks are in total ignorance of the Philippine people’s pursuit of peace, cooperation and development as well as China-Philippines helping each other in developing economy, improving people’s livelihood and increasing employment,” ayon sa Chinese embassy.

Ang pahayag nito ay inilabas ilang araw pagkatapos ng pagbisita ni Nuland sa Maynila, kung saan sinabi niya sa mga piling mamamahayag: “How many of those promises have actually converted into jobs, into the kind of investment that is sustainable, and that brings benefits to the Philippines rather than just to Beijing?”

Bilang tugon, nabanggit ng embahada na nasa 40 government-to-government projects ang natapos o nasa progreso pa lamang, kabilang dito ang Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, Davao-Samal Bridge at Chico River Pump Irrigation Project.

Ipinahayag din nito na 14 na intergovernmental cooperation agreement ang nilagdaan sa agrikultura at pangisdaan, pananalapi, customs, e-commerce at turismo, bukod sa iba pa.

Naglabas ng isa pang babala ang embahada ng Tsina tungkol sa pagpapalawak ng EDCA sites, na sinasabi na ito ay “maghihila” sa Pilipinas sa kalaliman ng geopolitical strife at makapinsala sa pag-unlad ng ekonomiya nito sa huli”.

“We hope that the Philippine people can tell the selfish interests and zero-sum mentality of the United States to provoke a new cold war in this region,” dagdag pa nito.
