MAHIGPIT na kinontra ng ilang Senador ang pagpapaliban ng nakatakdang 2022 Presidential elections.
Ginawa ng Senado ang pagtutol sa gitna ng mungkahi ni Pampanga Cong. Mikey Arroyo na dapat ideklara ng Comelec ang postponement ng halalan sa 2022 dahil sa Covid-19 pandemic.
Inihayag ni Senate Pres. Tito Sotto na ang panukalang postponement ng 2022 election ay unconstitutional at masalimuot na panukala.
“The idea presents a number of controversial & unconstitutional issues. To name a few, who will hold over their positions? If not, who will appoint their replacements? The tenure of elected govt officials are fixed,” giit ni Sotto.
Sa panig ni Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, malabo ang hangarin ng ilang grupo na magkaroon ng “no-election sa 2022.
“This is the continued effort at a no-el scenario. The postponement could be a prelude to the main objective of extending the terms of the members of Congress and the elected officials. That is not feasible, ” ani Drilon
Ayon naman kay Sen. Imee Marcos, chairperson ng Senate committee on Electoral Reforms, dapat sundin ang isinasaad ng Konstitusyon para marinig ang boses ng taumbayan.
Bukod dito, kahit may Covid-19, sinabi ni Marcos na naggawa naman ng ibang mga bansa na magdaos ng eleksyon.
“Lagi tayo tumalima sa saligang batas, ituloy ang eleksyon 2022. Tutal nagawa ng maraming bansa ang elections sa panahon ng pandemya- South Korea, Taiwan, Belarus, Singapore, Iceland, Poland at sa November ang US.
However, we should explore all possible scenarios: the 3-day election recommended by Comelec, expanded early voting, mail-in ballots, even in select cases livestream online voting. No doubt there are issues with every mode of voting, but the voice of the people must be heard,” pahayag ni Marcos.
Binigyan diin pa ni Marcos na may solusyon sa mga problemang kakaharapin sa nakatakdang eleksyon sa 2022.
“May IMEE solusyon dyan! pabotohin ng mas maaga ang senior citizens, PWD, AFP at PNP na magdu-duty. Kausap na namin ang post office kung kakayanin ang mail-in system. Ang OFW naman pinagpipilitan yung online at livestream voting. Payag ang COMELEC na magtrabaho ng 3 araw na eleksyon.Maraming problema sa lahat nyan- pero di ba may mga isyu rin tayo pati sa automated election na ating ginagawa ngayon? May solusyon yan, ayusin na lang natin” dagdag pa ni Marcos
