448 taga-suporta ng NPA, sumuko sa Agusan del Norte

BUTUAN CITY – Umabot sa 448 underground supporters ng komunistang New People’s Army (NPA) sa Agusan del Norte sa bayan ng Las Nieves ang nanumpa ng katapatan sa pamahalaan sa ginanap na mass surrender ng Huwebes ng hapon, ayon sa 23^rd Infantry Battalion (23IB) ng Army.

Sumuko rin ang limang miymbero ng Milisya ng Bayan (MB) sa ilalim ng Guerrilla Front 4 ng North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) ng NPA sa pamahalaan noong araw ding iyon, ayon kay 1Lt. Roel T. MAglalang, 23IB civil-military operations officer.

Ayon kay Maglalang, na ang naturang malawakang pagsuko ay resulta ng massive peace consultations at dayalogo na isinagawa ng unit sa nasabing barangay simula noong Disyembre 2020.

“These dialogues and consultations were designed to allow residents to ventilate their issues and concerns, especially on peace and security in their community,” ayon kay Maglalang.

Ayon pa sa opisyal ng Army, kabilang sa idinadaing ng mga residente ang extortion activities at harassment ng rebeldeng NPA sa kanilang komunidad.

 “The residents are already tired of hardships brought about by these terrorist NPAs. All they want now is for the government to address the development gaps in their community. Development initiatives in the area, for a long period of time, have been barred by the NPA,” aniya.

Sinaksihan naman ang mass surrender nina Mayor Avelina S. Rosales ng Las Nieves, Administrator Jerry S. Laurito na kumatawan kay Gov. Dale B. Corvera ng Agusan del Norte, at Rey Cueva, provincial director ng Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) sa lalawigan.

Kinilala rin ni Lt. Col. Julius C. Paulo, 12IB commander, ang ipinakitang tapang ng mga taga-baryo sa pagtulong sa pamahalaan upang wakasan ang problema sa rebelyon sa kanilang komunidad.



“For 52 years, thousands of villagers were seduced by and recruited by the NPA. But what accomplishment or contributions, especially in terms of economic development, the NPA brought and implemented in Casiklan? Nothing. They only brought havoc into the lives of the people in Casiklan,” ayon kay Paulo.

Binigyang-diin din niya ang kahalagahaan ng malawakang pagsuko, na sinasabing itinutulak nito ang nalalabing mandirigmang NPA na tumiklop sa batas.

“The NPA will suffer more from hunger and exhaustion as the people will no longer welcome them in this community. They can no longer extort money and ask for food supplies to support their daily needs,” ayon kay Paulo.
