MATAPOS makatikim ng kritisimo ang “no Beep card, no ride” policy, muling nanawagan ang Department of Transportation (DOTR) ngayong Sabado, sa AF Payments Inc (AFPI) na huwag singilin sa mga pasahero ang ginastos sa Beep card.
Babala ng DOTr na kanilang susupendehin ang automatic fare collection system sa EDSA Busway kung hindi tatanggalin ng AFPI, service provider ng Beep cards, ang P80 payment para sa nasabing stored value cards, na karagdagang pasanin lamang sa mga pasahero lalo na sa mga manggagawa.
“These are the ordinary commuters who are still reeling from the impact of the COVID-19 and the strictly enforced community quarantines in their livelihood. Thus, they should be spared from this additional burden,” ayon sa DOTr.
“Should the AFPI refuse to cooperate by allowing the free use of the beep card to commuters upon payment of the fare load, the DOTr will have [to] suspend its use in the EDSA Busway to alleviate the burden of commuters,” dagdag pa nito.
Matatandaan na ipinatupad ng naturang ahensiya ang “no Beep card, no ride” policy noong Oktubre 1 upang maiwasan ang hawaan ng COVID-19 lalo na sa mga mananakay.
Una nang iginiit ni Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto na dapat ibigay sa mga pasahero ang Beep card nang libre dahil may sapat naman na pondo ang pamahalaan.
Sa presyong P80 bawat card ay aabot ng P80 million pesos ang babayaran ng gobyerno kung saan tinatayang 500,000 pasahero ang sumasakay sa bus araw-araw ay posibleng bumaba pa ang nasabing presyo ng hanggang P40 million.
