10K alien seaman napauwi sa kanilang bansa – BI

HALOS 10,000 foreign seafarers  ang napauwi na sa kanilang mga bansa matapos maipit ng ilang linggo sakay ng cruise ship na nasa Manila Bay magmula noong Abril dahil sa COVID-19 pandemic.

Sa ipinadalang report kay Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente ni BI Seaport Operations Chief Alnazib Decampong na noong Agosto 19 ay umabot sa 9,854 alien seaman ang naiproseso at nakapasa sa BI boarding inspector para makaalis ng bansa.

Agad sinamahan ng mga tauhan ng BI ang mga seafarer sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) kasunod ng pagbaba nila sa kanilang cruise ship at umuwi na sa kani-kanilang mga bansa.

Dagdag pa ng opisyal, ang mga foreign crewmen ay pinayagan lamang umalis matapos sumalang sa RT-PCR swab test na isinagawa ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel at nag-negatibo sa coronavirus.

Noon namang Abril 2020, mahigit 19,300 namang mga Pinoy seamen ang nakauwi na sa kanilang mga pamilya matapos ma-stranded sa mga vessel na na-tengga din sa Manila Bay.

“Like their foreign counterparts, these Pinoy seamen were also swab tested and declared to be free of the virus before they were cleared by our inspectors and sent off to their respective hometowns in Metro Manila and elsewhere throughout the country. We have to ensure that all these seamen will not endanger the health and safety of their loved ones when they come home and reunite with their families. There are only four vessels remaining in the anchorage with only a few crewmen aboard who were left to maintain the ship before their outbound voyage,” ani Decampong.

Base sa data, nasa 30,000 Filipino at foreign seafarers ang na-clear na ng BI crew members ng 57 cruise ships na nasa Manila Bay mula Abril noong nagsimula na ang COVID-19 pandemic.
