BOC nasabat P13.2-M smuggled carrots sa Port of Manila

NASABAT ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) sa Port of Manila ang tatlong 40-foot container na naglalaman ng mga misdeclared na fresh carrots mula China na tinatayang nagkakahalaga ng P13.2 milyon, sa pinakahuling operasyon laban sa agricultural smuggling.

Dumating ang shipment noong Oktubre 2, 2025, at kalaunan ay inilabas ang Alert Order noong Oktubre 8 matapos makatanggap ng derogatory report ang POM Alert Monitoring Unit, ayon kay District Collector Alexander Gerard E. Alviar.

Sa isinagawang full physical examination noong Oktubre 17, natuklasan ng mga examiner ng Customs ang 53,283.88 kilo ng mga sariwang karots na maling idineklara bilang bathroom fixtures, napkins, at storage boxes.

May tinatayang fair market value ang mga ito na P13,282,072.77.

Sinuri ni Assistant Commissioner Vincent Philip C. Maronilla ang naturang shipment noong Oktubre 22, kasama ang ilang opisyal ng ahensya.

“We are already preparing the necessary legal actions against those responsible. Misdeclaration is a deliberate act to deceive the government and harm our farmers,” ani Maronilla. “The BOC will pursue this case with due process and determination.”

Maglalabas ang ahensya ng Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) laban sa shipment dahil sa paglabag sa Section 1400 at 117 (Misdeclaration and Lack of Import Permit), kaugnay ng Section 1113 (Property Subject to Seizure and Forfeiture) ng Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

Ayon naman kay BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, mahigpit nilang ipatutupad ang direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na protektahan ang mga lokal na magsasaka at tiyakin ang patas na kalakalan.

“These illegal shipments directly affect the livelihood of our farmers and the integrity of lawful trade. We are intensifying our border protection measures and coordination with other agencies to stop these unlawful activities,” ani Nepomuceno.

Dagdag pa niya, nananatiling tungkulin ng BOC na siguruhing tanging mga lehitimong produkto lamang ang makapasok sa bansa bilang proteksyon sa ekonomiya at sa kabuhayan ng bawat Pilipinong magsasaka. (MINA PADERNA)
