NAGPAHAYAG ng labis ng pagkadismaya ang isang opisyal ng Philippine Embassy sa Bangkok matapos ang inilabas na headline ng Thai newspaper para tawagin na “Land of COVID-19” ang Pilipinas.
Sa ipinadalang sulat ni Consul General Val Simon T. Roque kay Thai Rath editor-in-chief Khin Savarut, tinawag nito ang characterization ng pahayagan sa Pilipinas bilang inappropriate, insensitive, at unhelpful sa panahon kung saan ay dapat nagtutulungan ang mga bansa sa Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Sinabi sa lumabas na balita na “dumating na sa Thailand ang 165 Filipino teacher na nagmula sa ‘Land of COVID-19’ noong August 8.”
“The Philippine Embassy wishes to express its deep dissatisfaction over the characterization in the headline of the Philippines in relation to the return of the teachers,” ayon kay Roque.
Tiniyak din niya sa Thai Rath at mga mambabasa nito na ang mga Filipino teachers na dumating sa Thailand ay sumunod sa mga health protocols at quarantine conditions ng Royal Thai Government.
“We, at the Philippine Embassy, can also attest to the diligence and professionalism of Thai civil servants at the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila, the airports, and the Ministry of Public Health in ensuring that the foregoing protocols and quarantine requirements are stringently followed so that the Kingdom can continue to manage the COVID-19 situation very well,” dagdag pa niya.
