Nagsagawa ng kilos-protesta ang iba’t ibang civil society organization sa harap ng House of Representatives sa Quezon City ngayong araw, upang ipanawagan sa mga mambabatas na silipin ang tax dodging practices, gayundin ang mapaminsalang epekto sa kapaligiran, ng mga kompanya sa extractives sector.
Ang demonstrasyon, na kinordon ng pulisya, ay bahagi ng pagdiriwang ng mga grupo sa taunang Global Day of Action for Tax Justice in the Extractives Sector na may temang nananawagan din na wakasan ang pagmimina, oil at gas profiteering.
Nilahukan ang rally ng Sanlakas, Oriang, Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino, Aniban ng Manggagawa sa Agrikultura, Zone One Tondo Organization and the Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD).
“Tax and fiscal rules must prioritize people’s needs and rights, and regulatory mechanisms in the extractives sector must be strengthened to stop illicit financial flows in the industry and make sure that enough money is made to rebuild key public services,” ayon kay APMDD Coordinator Lidy Nacpil.
