Naghain si Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., ng diplomatic protest laban sa China kaugnay sa bago nitong batas na nagbibigay-kapangyarihan sa coast guard nito na paputukan ang mga foreign vessel sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
“After reflection I fired a diplomatic protest,” saad ni Locsin sa kanyang tweet nitong Miyerkoles.
Ani Locsin, bagama’t ang pagpapatupad ng batas ay isang sovereign prerogative, isang verbal na banta ng giyera sa kahit anong bansa ang bagong batas ng China dahil patungkol ito sa South China Sea o WPS.
“While enacting law is a sovereign prerogative, this one—given the area involved or for that matter the open South China Sea—is a verbal threat of war to any country that defies the law; which, if unchallenged, is submission to it,” dagdag ng top diplomat.
Matatandaang inihayag ni Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque na dapat sang-ayon sa international law at sa United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea ang bagong ipinasang batas ng China.
