CAINTA, RIZAL – In its continuing commitment to address flooding and promote sustainable waste management, the Municipal Government of Cainta under the leadership of Mayor Johnielle Keith “Kit” Nieto will roll out a Cash-for-Plastic Program starting next month.
The initiative, made possible through a partnership with a major logistics hub along Ortigas Avenue, aims to reduce the volume of plastic waste that often clogs drainage systems and causes flash floods in the municipality.
As part of the program, five container vans will be placed in strategic locations across Cainta’s seven barangays. These will serve as designated collection hubs where residents can bring their plastic waste. Each hub will have weighing stations to determine the cash equivalent that residents will receive for the plastic they turn in.
“All types of plastic will be accepted except toxic and medical waste,” Mayor Nieto clarified, adding with humor, “and of course, not the ‘plastic people.’”
The collected plastic materials will then be hauled by the logistics partner for proper recycling, ensuring that the program contributes both to environmental protection and flood mitigation.
“Hindi tayo mapapagod, hindi susuko. Lahat gagawin para lalong umayos ang bayan natin,” Mayor Nieto said, underscoring his administration’s commitment to long-term and people-centered solutions.
The program is set to begin next month and is expected to mobilize community participation in proper waste disposal while providing financial incentives to Cainta residents.
For more details, residents are encouraged to follow the official Facebook page of the Municipality of Cainta for announcements on collection site locations and program guidelines.
