BARCELONA – Apat na mga leon sa Barcelona Zoo ang nagpositibo sa COVID-19, ito na ang pangalawang kaso nagkaroon ng malaking coronavirus ang malalaking feline, ayon sa beterenaryo.
Sinuri ang tatlong babae leon na sina Zala, Nima at Run Run at ang lalaking si Kiumbe matapos makitaan ng bahayang sintomas ng coronavirus.
Maging ang dalawang staff ng zoo ay nagpositibo rin sa virus.
Iniimbestigahan pa ng mga awtoridad kung papaano nahawa ang leon.
Nagsagawa ang mga tagabantay ng PCR tests sa parehong paraan tulad ng ginagawa sa tao dahil madalas makasalimuha ng mga hayop ang mga staff ng zoo.
Kinontak ng Veterinary Service of Barcelona ang mga kasamahan sa Bronx Zoo sa New Your, kung saan apat na tigre at tatlong leon ang nagpositibo sa COVID-19 noong Abril. Isa lamang ito sa mga zoo kung saan ang malalaking felines ay nahawa ng virus subalit lahat ay nakarekober.
“The Zoo has contacted and collaborated with international experts such as the Veterinary Service of the Bronx Zoo, the only one that has documented cases of Sars-CoV-2 infection in felines,” ayon sa Barcelona zoo sa isang pahayag.
“The lions were given veterinary care for their mild clinical condition – similar to a very mild flu condition – through anti-inflammatory treatment and close monitoring, and the animals responded well.”
