TAAS-PRESYO SA BIGAS, MAGPAPATULOY HANGGANG HULYO

Maaring magpatuloy ang pagtaas ng presyo ng bigas hanggang Hulyo 2024, ayon sa Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Sa press conference, sinabi ni PSA Director Dennis Mapa na mabilis ang pagtaas ng rice inflation sa 24.4 percent noong Marso, kumpara mula sa 23.7 percent noong Pebrero.

Itinuturing itong pinakamabilis na inflation print para sa butil ng palay sa loob ng 15 taon simula na ang maitala ang rice inflation sa 24.6% noong Pebrero 2009.

Ayon kay Mapa, ang patuloy na pagtaas sa double-digit increase sa rice inflation ay bunsod ng mababang base effect na nakita noong Enero hanggang Hulyo 2023, kung saan ang inflation para sa agricultural produce ay mababa.

“Our expectation is it will increase strongly until July because of mababang base effect… unless there is an intervention that will happen in the market that will bring down prices,” aniya.

Dagdag pa niya, maaring dahan-dahang bumaba ang presyo ng bigas sa Agosto 2024.

Aniya pa, naka-monitor ang Statistics agency sa galaw ng average prices ng tatlong mga pangunahing klase ng bigas, ang mga ito ay regular milled, well-milled, at special.

Sa partikular, ang average price ng regular milled rice ay P51.11 kada kilo noong March 2024, tumaas mula P39.90 kada kilo sa parehong buwan ng 2023.

Ang average price ng well-milled rice, sa kabilang dako ay nananatili sa P56.44 kada kilo mula P44.23 kada kilo, ‘year-on-year.’

Ang average price ng special rice P64.75 kada kilo noong Marso ngayong taon mula P54 kada kilo noong Marso ng nakaraang taon.

Sa isang kalatas, sinabi naman ni National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan na ang gobyerno ay “closely monitoring weather conditions and their effects on the supply of key commodities, such as food and energy, to protect Filipino households from sudden price increases.”

“To ensure sufficient water supply and support our farmers during the dry season, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has been tasked with monitoring water supply in the country. Simultaneously, the Department of Agriculture (DA) is proactively extending assistance to farmers adversely affected by the drought,” ayon kay Balisacan.
