SUBPOENA INISYU NG KAMARA VS QUIBOLOY

PORMAL na inatasan ng Kamara si Davao-based televangelist Apollo Quiboloy na humarap sa pagdinig ng House Committee on Legislative Franchise tungkol sa mungkahing kanselahin ang Congressional franchise ng Swara Sug Media Corporation, na nag-o-operate bilang Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI).

“Please be advised that failure to comply with this Order will constrain the Committee to resort to Section 11 of the Rules of Procedure Governing Inquiries in Aid of Legislation of the House of Representatives on the power of contempt,” saad sa February 13 subpoena na nilagdaan nina Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez; Parañaque City 2nd District Rep. Gus Tambunting, chairman ng nasabing komite; at House Secretary General Reginald Velasco.

Si Quiboloy ay pinadadalo sa darating na March 12 hearing ng komite ni Tambunting, sa ganap na 1:00 ng hapon sa Conference Room Nos. 7 at 8 ng Ramon V. Mitra Building Batasang Pambansa Complex, Quezon City.

Una nang nagpasya ang House panel na maglabas ng subpoena kay Quiboloy matapos isnabin ang paanyaya sa isinagawang pagdinig December 5 at 11, 2023, at February 7, 2024 sa kabila pa ng pormal na imbitasyon ng Kamara.

Para kay Surigao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Johnny Pimentel, vice chair ng franchise panel, lubhang mahalaga ang paglutang ni Quiboloy sa pagdinig para bigyan linaw ang kanyang papel sa operasyon ng SMNI.

“We deemed it necessary to compel Pastor Quiboloy’s attendance at the next hearing. He is the main actor in this inquiry, and there are numerous questions that demand his clarification, particularly regarding the ownership of Swara Sug,” wika ni Pimentel.

Sa bisa ng House Bill No. 9710, na inihain ni 1-Rider Partylist Rep. Rodge Gutierrez, tinukoy ang ilang mga di umano’y paglabag ng SMNI, na basehan para bawiin ng Kamara ang iginawad na prangkisa.

Nakasaad umano sa Section 4 ng Republic Act 11422 na inaatasan ang network na iwasang magamit ang istasyon at maging ang mga pasilidad nito sa pagpapakalat ng false information na mas kilala ngayon bilang fake news – gayundin ang pagkakaroon ng ‘misrepresentation’ na makasisira sa interes ng publiko.

“Swara Sug or SMNI failed to provide truthful and balanced reporting, citing cases filed against it in various institutions. These cases involved red-tagging, fake news, and baseless accusations against House members, the former vice president, and private individuals,” ayon pa naturang House bill.  

Mariin ding kinastigo ang SMNI dahil sa tila gusto nitong sirain ang relasyon ng Kamara at Senado nang sabihin na galing sa Mataas na Kapulungan ng Kongreso ang impormasyon hinggil sa P1.8 billion na nasunog ng mga kongresista sa kabi-kabilang biyahe.

Ang naturang himpilan din ang nag-ere sa sukdulang batikos na ipinukol ni former President Rodrigo Duterte sa Kamara matapos na kalusin ang P650-million confidential funds ng Office of the Vice President (OVP) at Department of Education (DepEd), na kapwa pinamamahalaan ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
