Sexual harassment sa Miriam College iimbestigahan ng DepEd

NANGAKO ang Department of Education na iimbestigahan ang mga reklamong harassment mula sa mga high school student at alumni ng Miriam College laban sa kanilang mga guro.

Ito’y matapos bumaha ng hashtag #MCHSDoBetter sa Twitter nang ipahayag ng mga estudyante at alumni ng Miriam College High School, isang all-girls education institution sa Quezon City, ang kanilang karanasan ng umano’y sexual harassment at emotional manipulation mula sa kanilang mga guro.

“’Yan po ay talagang titingnan nating mabuti, iimbestigahan nating mabuti,” ayon kay Education Undersecretary Tonisito Umali.

 “We will make sure that this private school has convened their Child Protection Committee and has commenced the investigation,”  dagdag niya.

Sinabi ni Umali na maging sa ibang mga paaralan ay mga ganito ring reklamo at tiniyak na hindi nila papalampasin ang mga insidenteng ito.

Noong Biyernes, sinabi ng Miriam College na bumuo na sila ng independent committee na sisilip sa naitalang insidente ng sexual harassment.

“We encourage all aggrieved to speak out and voice their concerns to the Committee. Rest assured that all parties involved will be afforded due process through an impartial and objective proceeding,” the school said.

Samantala, sinabi rin ng Ateneo de Manila na sisilipin din nila ang mga napaulat na report ng sexual harassment na ginawa ng kanilang faculty members sa mga estudyante.

“We assure our students that we are here to listen and support anyone who has experienced harassment,” ani ni Maria Elissa Lao, chairperson ng  gender and development focal point committee ng Ateneo.

Hinikayat ni Lao ang mga estudyante na isumbong ang mga insidente ng harassment sa kanilang email na [email protected] or [email protected].
