Nagpahayag si British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan na nais niyang makasagupang muli si Argentinian pug Marcos Maidana sa isang rematch. Giit ni Khan, nais niyang makalaban si Maidana kung muli itong babalik sa pagboboksing.
Kung matatandaan, naglaban ang dalawa noong 2010 kung saan nagwagi si Khan nang madepensahan ang kanyang WBA light-welterweight belt sa Las Vegas sa iskor na 114-11, 114-111 and 113-112.
Sa edad na 33-anyos, sinabi ni Khan na kung uupak muli sa boxing ring ang 36-anyos na retiradong si Maidana, na natalo ng dalawang beses kay Floyd Mayweather noong 2014.
Si Maidana, na nagpatulog ng 31 kalaban sa kanyang ten-year career— ay inaasahang uupak sana sa isang exhibition match noong nakaraang Hunyo. Kaya lang, hindi natuloy ang event dahil sa banta ng Covid-19.
“What do you think about giving me a rematch? It would be a good fight?” tanong ni Maidana kay Khan sa isang conference call sa 99th 99th WBA Convention noong nakaraang linggo.
“You were one of my toughest opponents and, in addition to everything that happened in that fight, I respect you very much,” sagot ni Khan.
“Of course, I would give you a rematch with one condition: that Alex Ariza (strength and conditioning coach) be with me,” dagdag pa ni Khan.
Nagkomento rin si Khan sa planong exhibition fight ni Maidana na nirerespeto niyaang boksingero at hinihiling niya na magiging maigi ang lahat para rito.
“He punched hard. Every punch he hit me with hurt me. He was so physically strong. He would not take a step back.”
“I remember when I hit him with a body shot. Anybody else less would have stayed down. He got back up. I was like, ‘Oh my God, how has he got back up?’” ani pa ni Khan.
