CLARK FREEPORT – Mahigit sa P1.2 milyon halaga ng waste materials ang nakolekta sa ginanap na 25th Recyclables and Hazardous Waste Collection Event (RHWCE) kamakailan lang na pinangunahan ng Clark Development Corporation (CDC), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Environmental Practitioners’ Association, Inc. (EPA) at iba pang environmental service partners.

Ginanap ang tatlong araw na event sa loob nitong Freeport na nilahukan ng 74 negosyante, institusyon, residente gayundin ang mga representative ng Bureau of Customs.

“The event is by far the highest grossing RHWCE since it first started in June 2003,” ayon kay CDC-Environmental Permits Division (EPD) Manager Engr. Rogelio Magat.

Kabilang sa pinakamalaking nahakot sa recyclable collection event ngayong taon ay 1,462 piraso ng gamit na lead-acid batteries na nagkakahalaga ng P515,000; na sinundan ng acid, alkali wastes at organic solvent na may timbang na 26,830 kg na nagkakahalaga ng P276,000.

Sinabi rin ni Magat na nakahakot din sila ng 12,057 piraso ng busted fluorescent lamps na may halagang P120,000; 75kg ng inks, dyes at paint sludge na may halagang P2,400; at 5,558 litro ng langis na may halagang P51,000. Nakakolekta rin sila ng iba pang waste products tulad ng gamit na waste tires, grease trap, oil-contaminated materials at electronic wastes at special wastes sa naturang event.

 “The recyclables event has been a resounding success. This has been the top-grossing event that we have conducted since its inception. We hope to learn from the safety strategies we’ve tested, and implement them in future iterations,” saad niya.

“CDC-EPD has also expanded the event’s collection coverage by including acid and alkali wastes, inks and paints, and waste tires among others. Scheduled pickups for bulk collection were also arranged for the safety and convenience of other participants,” dagdag pa niya.

Nangako si Magat, na siya presidente ng EPA, na mananatili ang Clark bilang environmentally sustainable zone kahit may pandemya.

“Extending the event to three days allows us to ensure the health and safety of our service providers and locators, as well as giving them ample time to plan their recycling trip,” wika ni Magat.

Sa kabila ng pagkaantala dahil sa pandeya, matagumpay na naisagawa pa rin ang naturang event sa pakikipagtulungan ng ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamila Foundation, Inc, sa pamamagitan ng kanilang Bantay Baterya at Bantay Langis Projects.

Kabilang sa top donors ng Bantay Baterya program ang SFA Semicon Philippines Inc., isang locator dito, na nangakong ibibigay ang kalahati ng kanilang donasyon sa ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation at sa EPA.

Suportado rin ang CDC ng iba pang environmental service partners gaya ng Joechem Environmental Corp., Dolomatrix Philippines, Inc., Oriental & Motolite Marketing Corp., Soliman EC Septic Tank Disposal and General Services, Far East Fuel Corp., at Semirecycling Co, Inc.

Ang tagumpay na ito ay naging posible dahil sa suporta at inisyu na three-day clearance nina Directors William Cuñado at Wilson Trajeco, mula sa Environmental Management Bureau Central Office at Regional Office III.

“The large amount of hazardous waste properly collected and treated by reliable environmental partners ensures a healthier and safer environment for the Clark Freeport Zone and beyond,” pagtatapos ni Magat.
