Chris Newsome, malapit nang matupad na makapaglaro sa national team

Abot-kamay na ni Meralco Bolts star Chris Newsome na dalhin ang bandera ng Pilipinas. Lalo na ang makapaglaro sa national men’s basketball team o Gilas. Dahil sa ilang development, lumilinaw na ang pag-asam ni Newsome na mapasama sa team.

Pagbabalik-tanaw niya, akala niya’y pwede siyang maglaro sa SEA Games. Ito’y nung una siyang salta sa Pinas.Pero, hinarang ito ng Fiba at hinold.

Pero, nitong nagdaang Hulyo, kinilala na ng Fiba si Newsome na local. Bunga ito ng kanyang 10 taong pananatili sa bansa. Sa kabila na 20-anyos na siyang nakakuha ng Philippine passport. Rekward ng Fiba sa players na dapat mayroon nang passport sa edad na 16.

 “Something I’ve always dreamed about is being able to wear a Pilipinas jersey,”ani Newsome. “I’m just blessed that the [Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas] was able to fight for me, able to even consider me and actually go as far to submitting the documents. A blessing and an honor.”

 “It would be a great experience for me, and a nice boost for my career,” Playing in the World Cup is really tough. So if ever, we’re going to prepare thoroughly for it,” aniya.
