NAPIGILAN ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) ang cyber attack na layong pabagsakin ang website ng Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Ayon kay DICT Undersecretary for Cybersecurity Jeff Ian Dy, nagawang depensahan ng DICT ang iba’t ibang web application na may kaugnayan sa OWWA mula sa cyber attacks.
“There was an attack to take down OWWA [website]… but it did not materialize because we were able to counterattack it,” ayon kay Dy.
Ayon sa opisyal, nagawang ma-trace ng ahensiya ang command at control center ng cyber attackers na nag-o-operate mula sa China. “So we’re able to detect that the attackers’ IP address came from China Unicom. So we need to coordinate with them,” wika ni Dy.
Ang China Unicom o China United Network Communications Group ay isang Chinese state-owned telecommunications company.
Gayunpaman, nilinaw ni Dy hindi direktang involved ang Chinese government sa cyberattack.
“What we can say is that the threat actors were operating from within Chinese territory,” saad niya.
Noong nakaraang taon, ilang website ng mga ahensiya ng gobyerno ang inatake katulad ng Philippine Health Insurance Corp (PhilHealth), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Philippine National Police (PNP) at Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
