KINUMPIRMA ng Malacañang na tinanggap ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang pagbibitiw ni National Police Commission (Napolcom) commissioner Edilberto Leonardo, na nasasangkot sa pagpaslang kay retired police general Wesley Barayuga.
Sa isang sulat na may petsang Oktubre 8, 2024, sumulat si Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin sa Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) upang ipaabot ditong tinanggap na ng pangulo ang resignation ni Leonardo.
“This refers to the letter dated 04 October 2024 of Mr. Edilberto Dela Cruz Leonardo, tendering his resignation as Commissioner, Representing the Law Enforcement Sector, National Police Commission, Department of the Interior and Local Government. On behalf of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., this is to inform you that his resignation has been accepted, effective immediately,” nakasaad sa sulat.
Magugunitang nagsumite si Leonardo ng kaniyang pagbibitiw sa puwesto matapos ilantad ni Police Lt. Col. Santie Mendoza na siya at si dating Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) chairperson Royina Garma ay nag-utos na paslangin si Barayuga dahil sa umano’y pagkakasangkot nito sa operasyon ng ilegal na droga.
