PINSAN NI PBBM NAIS PAHABAIN ANG TERMINO NG MGA KONGRESISTA (Tinabla ng liderato ng Kamara)

AGAD na ibinasura ng liderato ng Kamara ang isang resolusyon ng pinsan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. para palawigin ang termino ng mga kongresista.

Base sa Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No. 8 na inakda ni Ilocos Norte 2nd District Congressman Angelo Marcos Barba, nais nito na gawing limang taon ang termino ng congressmen mula sa kasalukuyang tatlong taon.

Sa ilalim ng 1987 Constitution, ang termino ng mga kongresista kasama ang local officials maliban sa barangay officials ay 3 taon at pwede silang tumakbo ng 3 beses para sa kabuuang 9 taon.

“Whereas, the nine year period is not enough for the members to fully serve their constituent and their proposed legislative agenda are, most of the time, left unenacted due to various priorities,” ayon sa nasabing resolusyon.

Dahil dito, kailangan aniyang gawing 5 taon ang termino ng mga kongresista kung saan dalawang beses lamang ang mga ito pwedeng tumakbo sa magkasunod na termino para sa kabuuang 10 taon.

Tanging ang Congressmen ang nais ni Marcos-Barba na mapalawig ang termino at hindi kasama ang local officials.

Ayon kay House Majority Leader at Zamboanga City Rep. Manuel Jose “Mannix” M. Dalipe, naninindigan ang pamunuan ng Kamara laban sa anumang amyendang isusulong sa labas ng economic provisions na tinutulak ng administrasyon sa hangaring makaakit ng mas maraming dayuhang kapitalista.

“We are sticking with that advocacy, because that is what we think will be good for the country and that is what we believe the people will accept,” wika ni Dalipe.

“The proposed economic constitutional changes are by and largely supported by the business community and the public,” dagdag pa ni Dalipe.

Patunay dito ang pinakahuling survey ng prestihiyosong Tangere data research firm na nagsasabing anim sa bawat sampung Pilipino ang sumusuporta sa panukalang economic reforms pag-asang makakalikha ng mas maraming trabaho at negosyo – bukod pa sa bentahe sa ekonomiya ng bansa.

“While there is broad acceptance for these reform proposals, a proposed constitutional amendment that is political in nature, on the other hand, will surely divide our people. They will suspect self-interest as the motivation behind such a proposal,” dagdag ng Zamboanga City lawmaker.
