Minomonitor na Embahada ng Pilipinas sa Australia ang imbestigasyon sa pagkamatay ng isang Filipino seaman na nadiskubre ang katawan sa isang beach sa Vanuatu, ayon sa Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
“It was in the local news there that a Filipino crew member was discovered missing from the foreign vessel as it left Vanuatu. Shortly, the body was found on the beach,” saad ni Ivy Banzon-Abalos, executive director ng DFA’s strategic communications office.
Ayon sa ilang report, nagpositibo sa COVID-19 ang naturang Pinoy.
Pero ayon kay Abalos na wala pang natatanggap na report ang DFA kung kumpirmado ngang positibo sa coronavirus disease ang seaman.
“The embassy is closely monitoring this ongoing investigation of the seaman’s death,” the DFA official said.
“The Philippine Embassy in Australia, through the Philippine Consulate General in Vanuatu, has been in touch with the manning agency which has informed the seaman’s family,” dagdag niya.
Alinsunod sa Philippine laws, sinabi niya na mandato ng local manning agency na tiyakin na matatanggap ang lahat ng benepisyo ng pamilya ng namatayan.
“The local manning agency is in touch with its principal company, as well as with its local company in Vanuatu to facilitate investigation of the case,” aniya.
Handa rin magbigay ng dagdag na tulong ang embassy para mapauwi ang mga labi ng namatay, ayon kay Abalos.
