PBBM HANDS-OFF SA IMBESTIGASYON SA SUGAR IMPORTATION

HANDS-OFF na si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr sa imbestigasyon kaugnay ng inilabas na kautusan ng Department of Agriculture (DA) para sa pag-aangkat ng 300,000 metriko toneladang asukal.

“The president is objective. He’s leaving the investigation to be conducted without his interference. Kailangan fair,” ayon kay Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles sa isang interview sa Radyo Pilipinas.

Nauna nang isinapubliko ni Angeles na “illegal” ang inilabas na sugar import order dahil nagpulong ang Sugar Regulatory Board at nagpalabas pa ng resolusyon nang walang pahintulot mula sa Pangulo.

“Malaking bagay ito because there appears to be an intent to mislead him,” ani ni Angeles.

“Is he supposed to uphold that? Is he supposed to go along with it? Is he supposed to trust that these things can work on their own, even if he has no explicit authority given to these people? Siyempre, nakakasama talaga ng loob ‘yun,” dagdag niya.


DA Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian, one of the officials involved in the controversy, has resigned and publicly apologized to Marcos for approving the order.

Matatandaang ibinunyag ni Angeles na kabilang sa pumirma sa kontrobersyal na resolusyon si DA Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian kahit wala umano itong kapangyarihan na gawin.

Nagbitiw na sa puwesto si Sebastian kaugnay ng usapin.

Gayunman, wala pang inilalabas na impormasyon ang Malacañang kung tinanggap na ni Marcos ang resignation ni Sebastian na may petsang Agosto 11.
