OFW remittances lumago noong Mayo – BSP

TUMAAS ng 13.1% ang cash remittances mula sa mga overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) noong Mayo.

Sa datos ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, lumago sa $2.382 billion ang remittances mula sa OFW na mas mataas sa $2.106 billion sa kaparehong panahon noong 2020.

“This was due to the 16.2% and 2.7% increase in receipts from land-based workers (to $1.84 billion from $1.631 billion) and sea-based workers (to $488 million from $475 million), respectively,” saad ng BSP.

Dagdag ng central bank, ang paglago sa cash remittances mula sa United States, Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, at Canada ang nakaambag nang malaki sa pagtaas ng remittances mula Enero hanggang Mayo 2021.

Pinakamataas ay sa US na may overall remittances share na 40.1%, sinundan ng Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Japan, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Canada, South Korea, Qatar, at Taiwan.

Samantala, ang personal remittances o ang perang ipinapadala nang cash o in-kind via informal channels ay tumaas din sa 13.3% o $2.652 billion noong Mayo mula sa $2.341 billion a year earlier.

“In particular, personal remittances from land-based workers with work contracts of one year or more rose by 16.2% to $2.056 billion during the month of May from the $1.77 billion in May 2020,” paliwanag ng BSP.

“Remittances from sea-based workers and land-based workers with work contracts of less than one year also increased by 2.7% to $532 million from $519 million a year ago,” dagdag nito.
