Millennial’s POV: Camille Villar goes to the grassroots, meets with barangay leaders

To better understand the plight of those in the barangays, senatorial candidate Camille Villar met with various chapters of Liga ng mga Barangay and local officials in Iloilo and Palawan on Tuesday.

Addressing the convention of the Liga ng mga Barangay ng Cebu at the Iloilo Convention Center, Villar focused on the important contribution of barangay leaders in bringing government services to the people.

It is through the country’s network of 42,000 barangays that the government is able to reach out to the communities, she noted.

She also underscored how every barangay unit is essential to the delivery of basic health and social services, and in the implementation of community projects.

As such, Villar vowed to continue supporting efforts that would strengthen barangays as well as ensure additional benefits for barangay workers.

A two-term lawmaker, Villar has advocated for job creation, entrepreneurship, and housing for every Filipino. She also called for efforts improving reproductive and maternal health, and, supported intiatitives that advanced women’s rights.

“Noong pa man, isinusulong ko na— mga batas na magtataguyod kabuhayan, magbibigay ng trabaho, magpapaabot ng pangarap na bahay para sa mga Filipino, ipagpapatuloy ko po yan,” she said.

Smarting from criticisms, Villar said, once given the chance to serve in the Senate,  she would continue pushing for the brand of efficient public service, rooted in “Sipag at Tiyaga”, the way the Villars have been known for.

“Ako po ang magiging bagong boses niyo sa Senado ng sa gayon matugunan natin ang pangangailangan ng bawat pamilyang Filipino,” added Villar, who is running for the Senate in the 2025 midterm polls.

From Iloilo, Villar had a motorcade in Capiz where she interacted with local mayors at the Capiz Provincial Capitol.

Later in the afternoon, she addressed the Liga ng mga Barangay ng Cavite, who had their convention in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. (DANNY BACOLOD)
