MAYOR TIANGCO SA NAVOTEÑOS: LAGING HANDA SA MGA SAKUNA

PINAALALAHANAN ni Mayor John Rey Tiangco ang mga Navoteños na dapat ay laging nakahanda sa anumang sakuna.

“Being a coastal city, Navotas is vulnerable to natural disasters. We need to prepare and empower our people through continuous awareness and education campaign,” sabi niya sa ginanap na virtual forum entitled “Handa sa Sakuna.”

“While calamities are fearsome, being caught off guard is more terrifying. We may not know when a disaster will strike, but being prepared helps ensure that lives and properties will be saved,” aniya.

Ang forum na pinangunahan ng Navotas City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, ay isinagawa bilang selebrasyon ng National Disaster Resilience Month ngayong taon.

Kabilang sa mga resource speakers ang Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Geoscience and Disaster Risk Reduction Communication Specialist, Charmaine Villamil; Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Public information Unit’s Information and Science Officer, Bernard Punzalan; at Bureau of Fire Protection – Navotas Finance Unit Chief, SINSP. Glenn Mayugao.

“Aside from equipping our people with the knowledge on disaster preparedness and safety, we also strive to construct facilities and secure supplies and equipment necessary for effective disaster risk reduction and management,” ani Tiangco.

Noong nakaraang araw, pinasinayaan ng pamahalaang lungsod ang staging area ng Navotas Rescue Center sa Brgy. NBBS Dagat-dagatan.  

Inaasahang maging mapadali at maayos ang paggalaw ng mga tauhan, kagamitan at mga suplay sa panahon ng sakuna at iba pang emergencies. Kamakailan ay pinasinayaan din ng Navotas ang pinagandang central fire station na itinayo noong 1971. Ang station ay tumatanggap na ngayon ng apat na fire trucks. (JUVY LUCERO)
