Malapit na eskwelahan sa ‘Yolanda’ resettlement sites, itinutulak ni Nograles

Dapat magkaroon ng malapit na eskwelahan ang resettlement sites upang hindi na maglakad nang napakalayo ang mga estudyante para magkaroon ng access sa pangunahing edukasyon, ayon kay Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles.

Ito ang itinutulak ni Nograles, na siyang namumuno sa Task Force Yolanda, na handa namang isaalang-alang ni Education Secretary Leonor Briones.

 “Kawawa kasi ang mga bata kung malayo ang mga komunidad na ito sa mga paaralan. So it’s good that the [Department of Education] has this Last Mile Schools Program, wherein they work to provide geographically isolated, disadvantaged, and conflict-affected (GIDCA) areas with access to basic education,” saad ni Nograles sa isang pahayag.

Ang Las Mile Schools ay ang mga paaralan na mayroong multi-grade classes, na may hindi bababa sa limang guro, na may mahigit kumulang na mag-aaral, kung saan 75 percent ay mga indigenous people.

Nanawagan din siya sa Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at Department of Health) na magtatag na day care at health centers sa resettlement sites.

“We cannot just stop with building their houses; we have to make sure that these displaced families also have access to basic necessities: schools, day care centers, health centers. Naiintindihan naman nina [DWSD] Sec. Bautista at [DOH] Sec. Duque ito. and they said their agencies will be helping out in this regard,” dagdag niya.

Ayon kay Nograles, mahalaga na hindi lang basta itayo ang resettlement sites, kundi payagan nila ang mga pamilya na umunlad, hindi lamang para mabuhay.

“We want to do more than rebuild their homes — we want to help the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda rebuild their lives,” saad niya.

Binigyang diin niya ang kahalagahan na ilapit ang edukasyon at kabuhayan upang tiyakin na ang pamayanan ay mabuhay at maging matagumpay.

“We know that livelihood and education would be concerns that need to be factored in to ensure the long-term viability of these relocation sites,” saad pa niya.
