Naitanim na puno ng San Miguel Global Power, umabot na sa 5 milyon

Umabot na sa 5 milyon ang mga punong naitanim ng kumpanyang San Miguel Global Power (SMGP) ng San Miguel Corporation simula noong 2019 at kasama na rin sa programa ng naturang kumpanya ang pagpapatayo ng Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities ang iba’t ibang lugar sa bansa.  

Ayon kay SMC President and Chief Executive Officer Ramon S. Ang ay umaabot na sa 5,010,116 ang upland at mangrove na puno ang naitanim sa 1,500 ektarya na lupa hanggang Oktubre 2022.  

Layon ng naturang proyekto na makapagtanim ng 7 milyon na puno sa 4,000 ektarya ng lupa sa hindi bababa sa pitong probinsya. Naisagawa na ang proyekto sa walong probinsya na kinabibilangan ng Albay, Bataan, Bulacan, Davao Occidental, Negros Occidental, Pangasinan, Quezon province, at Zambales.  

Kasama dito ang mga lugar kung saan maglalagay ng battery storage facilities. Ang mga lugar na ito ay Albay, Bohol, Cagayan, Cebu, Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, Isabela, Laguna, Leyte, Misamis Oriental, Pampanga, Pangasinan, at Tarlac.  

Magtatayo ang SMGP ng 31 na BESS facilities na may kabuuang kapasidad na 1,000 MW.  

Ang naturang battery facilities at makakabawas ng aksaya sa kuryente na magagamit sa ibang lugar. Ito ay makakatulong na mapaganda ang kalidad at mas lalong maaasahan ang suplay ng kuryerte.  

“Reforestation is one of the major sustainability priorities of the entire San Miguel Group. While we have had many similar efforts initiated by our various subsidiaries in the past, SMGP has taken it to another level, planting a record 5 million trees in just under three years, with consistently high survival rates” wika ni Ang.  

Nagpasalamat rin siya sa sa partner communities,people’s organizations, local government units, at employee volunteers ng SMGP’s partner communities sa tagumpay ng tree-planting initiative.  

Aniya, ang survival rate ng mga nasabing puno sa upland at coastal areas ay umaabot na sa 90 porsyento dahil sa tulong na rin ng local communities.

“With our continued partnership with communities and local stakeholders, we are confident that not only will we reach our targets, but the trees we are planting today will grow to full maturity and benefit their surrounding environment for generations to come,” wika ni Ang.  

“The major challenge of renewable power everywhere in the world is intermittence. With renewables, the ability to generate power is always limited. You cannot generate solar power at nighttime, or when weather conditions block sunlight. You cannot produce wind power when there’s no wind. When there’s a drought, you also can’t produce hydropower. Battery storage is key to mitigating all these issues,” dagdag pa niya.  

“That is why we have prioritized putting up the country’s first battery facilities and first and largest battery network to date. It is key to enabling the use of more renewable capacities in the grid, and a critical part of our phased transition and expansion to cleaner and renewable power,” ani Ang.
