DISQUALIFICATION CASE VS MARCOS BINASURA

Binasura ng Second Division ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ang petisyon para ikansela ang certificate of candidacy (COC) ni presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos.

Sa resolusyon, walang nakitang pagkakamali ang division sa inihaing COC ni Marcos Jr. taliwas sa akusasyon ng mga petitioner na nagsinungaling ang presidential aspirant nang ideklara nitong wala siyang nadesisyunang kaso na ang parusa ay perpetual disqualification sa public office.

“Consequently, the representations of Respondent Marcos Jr. in his certificate of candidacy that he is eligible to be elected to the office of the President of the Philippines and that he has not been found liable for an offense which carries with it the accessory penalty of perpetual disqualification from holding public office are NOT FALSE,” ayon sa Comelec division.

“Thus, there is no legal justification to deny due course to or cancel the certificate of candidacy of Respondent Marcos Jr.,” diin pa ng poll body.

Tiniyak naman nitong Lunes ni Atty. Theodore Te, abogado ng mga petitioner, na maghahain sila ng motion for reconsideration sa Commission en banc sa loob ng limang araw.

Ang petisyon ay isinampa nina Fr. Christian Buenafe, co-chairperson ng Task Force Detainees; Fides Lim, board chair ng Kapatid-Families and Friends of Political Prisoners; Ma. Edeliza Hernandez, executive director ng Medical Action Group; Celia Lagman Sevilla, secretary general ng Families of Victims of Involuntary Disappearance; Roland Vibal ng Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates, at Josephine Lascano, executive director ng Balay Rehabilitation Center.

Nagpasalamat naman ang kampo ni Marcos Jr. sa Comelec “for upholding the law and the right of every bona fide candidate like Bongbong Marcos to run for public office free from any form of harassment and discrimination.”
