Buhain, kabilang sa 19 regional representatives ng PSI

KATUWANG ang Department of Social Welfare and Development sa ilalim ng programang Assistance in Crisis Situation (AICS), binigyang ayuda ng pamahalaang panlalawigan ng Bataan ang humigit-kumulang 4,000 residente ng naturang lalawigan.


SA isa pang pagsikad tungo sa minimithing pagbabago sa Philippine aquatics, naihalal ang 19 na kilalang personalidad, sa pangunguna ni Two-time Olympian at ngayon Congressman na si Eric Buhain, para sa tuluyang reporma sa Philippine Swimming, Inc (PSI).

Sa ilalim ng mahigpit na pangangasiwa ng World Aquatics-backed Electoral Committee na pinamumunuan ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) Secretary-General Atty. Edwin Gastanes, ang 19 na kinatawan ng rehiyon ay inihalal ng mga swimming club at asosasyon mula sa kani-kanilang mga lugar/rehiyon sa isang serye ng hybrid zoom assembly/eleksiyon na nagtapos nitong Huwebes (Mayo 25).

“Ilang lap na lang at tagumpay na ito para sa Philippine swimming at tiyak ang magandang kinabukasan para sa ating mga mahuhusay na Filipino swimmers,” sabi ni Buhain ng 1st District ng Batangas at pangulo ng Congress of Philippine Aquatics, Inc (COPA).

Naihalal si Buhain bilang kinatawan ng Rehiyon 4A (CALABARZON) at posibleng mapabilang sa binubuong PSI Board of Trustees. Itinakda ng Electoral Committee ang PSI National Congress at BoT election sa Hunyo 8, isang linggo na mas maaga mula sa naunang inihayag na iskedyul batay sa napagkasunduan ng 19 na kinatawan. Ang mga mahahalal na miyembro ng BoT ay magsasagawa ng halalan mula sa kanilang mga sarili para piliin ang bagong pangulo ng national swimming body.

Bukod kay Buhain, ang mga halal na kinatawan ng rehiyon ay sina Cecile ‘Bing’ Doromal (Region 4B); Bing Rosales (Rehiyon 5); Cris Bancal (Rehiyon 6); Jess Arriola (Rehiyon 7); Rex Dela Cruz (Rehiyon 8); Gib Sing Wong (Rehiyon 9); Leo Sanchez (BARMM); Angel Leonardo (Rehiyon 10); Jun Rodriguez (Rehiyon 11); Michael Talosig (Rehiyon 12); Willie Yu (CARAGA); Coach Emmanuel (CAR); Isagani Corpuz (Rehiyon 1); Elmer Corpuz (Rehiyon 2); Biboy Asturias (Region 3), Michael Vargas at Fred Galang Ancheta (National Capital Region) at Marie Dimanche (Sectoral Representative).

Ipinahayag ng Electoral Committee na batay sa kanilang datos, mahigit 300 swimming club ang nakarehistro para lumahok sa National Congress kung saaan ihahalal ang 11 miyembro ng BoT mula sa 10 batay sa geographical sector kasama ang isang miyembro mula sa mga kinatawan ng diving, open water swimming, water polo at synchronized (artistic) swimming para sa kabuuang 11b Board of Trustees.

“I’m truly happy with the recent development. More than getting elected, I’m immensely buoyed by the fact that soon, we will have the best association for our young athletes in Philippine aquatics. Looking at my fellow representatives, I’d say we share the goal of finally unifying all groups of Philippine aquatics, and again see the Filipino tankers swimming and diving for golds in international events.

“Ours is a story of connecting and helping each other during the pandemic when all of aquatics activities nationwide closed down three years ago. Then we worked on resolving the many ills in the sports and hopes presented themselves for the big change when the POC thru President Bambol Tolentino heard us and took serious note of our plight.

“At ngayon sa tulong ng POC at sa pagkakaisa na mayroon tayo, sa wakas ay mangyayari ang pagbabago para sa ikabubuti ng Phil Aquatics,” dagdag ng Philippine Hall-of-Famer.

Kinatigan ng iba pang nahalal na mga kinatawan ang pahayag at paninidigan ni Buhain para sa positibong pagbabago.

“We do not need the throne, we just need to be heard. It is not about the organization we are affiliated in, it is about our vocation, our passion and dedication to the sport we all love,” sambit ni Galang-Ancheta, pangulo ng Swim League Philippines (SLP).

Ipinahayag naman ni Doromal, ina ng SEA Games multi-medalist at World Championship campaigner na si Chloe Isleta, ang kanyang pasasalamat sa pagkakapili sa kanyan bilang kinatawan ng kanyang rehiyon.

“I am very excited for the future of Philippine swimming with our coming election. I am also thrilled and looking forward to work together with my fellow representatives in nominating and voting our new board members and officers of our new swimming federation. Most of all, I am ready to go to work with our members. “We have been behind in a lot of things, and once this election is over, we all have to work together as one. That is the only way to move forward, and to accomplish our goals productively in the next years,” ayon kay Doromal.
