TINIYAK ni House Committee on Dangerous Drugs Chairperson and Surigao del Norte 2nd District Rep. Robert Ace Barbers na ang pagdinig ng House Tri-Committee sa fake news at disinformation ay hindi naglalayong patahimikin ang mga kritiko, kundi upang i-regulate ang pagkalat ng mapinsalang content sa social media.
“I just would like to reiterate that the objective of the the hearings the Tricom is conducting is not to suppress the freedom of expression or the freedom of speech,” ayon kay Barbers sa second hearing ng panel nitong Martes, Pebrero 18.
Iginiit ni Barbers ang kahalagahan ng pagtatatag ng mga patakaran at regulasyon sa digital platforms upang matiyak na ang social media ay ginagamit nang tama at hindi nagiging dahilan ng pagkalat ng maling impormasyon o fake news.
“Our take being members of the 19th Congress is to establish a set of rules, conscious of course of the constitutional right to freedom of expression.”
Pinaalalahanan ni Barbers ang mga social media influencer at vlogger na bagamat welcome ang kritisismo, ang pagpapakalat ng mga kasinungalingan at pekeng balita ay may kaakibat na legal na mga parusa.
“In fact, we don’t mind even if you do that 24 hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year, that’s all right. But please be careful with what you post on line, because if these are found to be fake, lies or falsehoods, then there are laws that can be used to penalize those who have abused the freedom of expression.”
“Kaya po tayo may mga batas, and let me remind them too that this right, though it is provided for in our Constitution, is not an absolute right,” dagdag niya.
