AXIE INFINITY PLAYERS BUBUWISAN – DOF

Sinabi ng Department of Finance (DOF) na dapat patawan ng buwis ang kita sa online play-to-earn games tulad ng Axie Infinity.

Ayon kay Finance Undersecretary Antonette C. Tionko, sinisilip na ng DOF kasama ang Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) ang Axie Infinity, isang adventure online game na gawa ng isang Vietnamese studio Sky Mavis.

Sa larong ito, kikita ang manlalaro sa pamamagitan ng cryptocurrencies na maaaring ipalit sa currency ng bansa.

Ngunit bago makapaglaro, kailangang bumili ang manlalaro ng tatlong digital pets na tinatawag na “axies” na ginagamit upang labanan ang mga karakter sa laro.

Pag-amin ni Tionko, hindi pa tukoy ng Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) ang “characterization” ng nasabing online game.

“But regardless of how it is characterized, it’s taxable, subject to income tax,” giit ng opisyal.

Naglalaro sa P250 lamang ang “axie” ngunit dahil naging popular ngayong pandemya, umaabot na sa P33,000 ang presyo ng kada digital pet.

Sinabi rin ni Tionko na hindi rehistrado sa BIR ang kompanyang gumawa ng Axie Infinity.

“It is not registered in the Philippines. That is one of the things that we hopefully capture once we have that system of registration for non-residents. It’s not in the Philippines, but certainly whoever earns currency from it, you should report it,” punto pa nito.

“Remember the principle of taxation, it’s a flow of wealth.”
