Darating na bukas (June22) ang 277 distressed overseas Filipino workers mula North Africa, ayon sa Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Kabilang sa mga repatriates ay ang mga OFW dependent mula Libya, Tunisia at Algeria, na lilipad via special flight ng Philippine Airlines (PR8131) at darating alas-4:40 ng hapon.
Ang mga darating na manggagawa ay nagtatrabaho sa oil industry at medical establishment, na karamihan ay tapos ang kontrata habang ang iba ay nawalan ng trabaho dahil sa temporary shutdown ng ilang kompanya bunsod ng COVOD-19 pandemic.
Sa ipinadalang report kay Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, sinabi ni Labor Attaché Adam Musa na ang nasabing special flight mula Libya ay lilipad sa Algiers at Tunis papuntang Pilipinas.
Ayon kay Musk, nakipagtulungan ang Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO), Philippine Embassy, International Organization for Migration (IOM), Samsung C&T Algeria, HEC-JLL at Brix Companies para sa repatriation ng OFWs.
Kasama ding lilipad pauwi ng Pilipinas ang mga labi ng OFWs na sina Herminia Sablay Estrada at Glenna Deza na kapwa namatay sa cardiac arrest sa Libya.
Nagpahayag naman ng kahandaan si Bello para tulungan ang mga nawalan ng trabaho.
Upang matulungan ang marami pang apektadong OFWs, sinabi ng kalihim na humiling na rin ito ng panibagong P1 bilyong pondo para sa AKAP program.
Mahigit 500,000 on-site at repatriated OFWs na ang natulungan ng DOLE sa pamamagitan ng one-time financial aid na $200 o P10,000.
Ang pondo na P2.5 billion ay nai-release sa ilalim ng AKAP program kung saan halos nasa 200,000 OFWs na ang nakinabang sa nasabing programa.
