GORDON, PRC KINILALA NG INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS (Malaki ang naging ambag sa pagtugon sa COVID-19)

‘DI pa rin matatawaran ang mga naging kontribusyon ng Philippine Red Cross  lalo na sa paglaban sa COVID-19.

Ito naging dahilan kung bakit kinilala ng International Federation of Red Cross ang mga naging ambag ng PRC.
Sa ginanap na World Disasters Report sa isang hotel sa Makati City, nagbigay ng mensahe ng pasasalamat si International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) President Kate Forbes sa naturang grupo. Ayon kay Forbes, malaki ang naging tulong ng PRC sa mga komunidad at maging sa gobyerno ng Pilipinas.

Sa Kapihan sa Manila Bay, ipinagmalaki ni PRC Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon na ang COVID testing ay ang pinakatumatak na achievement ng PRC sa pagtugon sa pandemya.

“We mainly provide  blood services, but during the pandemic we went out of our shell, out of our skill set, to be the solution to the immediate problem, which was that people didn’t know if the they were infected due the lack of testing facilities,” ayon kay Gordon.

Nagkaloob ang PRC ng nasal swab RT-PCR test kits, at kalaunan ay saliva testing. “We were No. 1 in testing in the country, with 5.7 million people tested,” ayon kay Gordon. “Which is why the government sought us for assistance. Without testing, the almost 70,000 people who died in the Philippines from COVID-19 could’ve been700,000 or 7 million.”

Mayroong 14 molecular laboratories ang PRC na kayang magproseso ng 60,000 test kada araw. Namahagi din ito ng mga face mask at personal protective equipment (PPEs), ginamit ang mga special ambulance para maghatid ng mga pasyente, binuksan ang emergency tent sa government hospitals, ini-activate ang 143 hotline para contact tracing at data gathering, nag-supply ng potable water, hygene kits, phone load, pagkain, tulong pinansiyal sa most vulnerable households sa buong bansa.

Bilang pagkilala sa pagsisikap nito, pinagkalooban ng Forbes ng special awards  si Gordon at ang buong organisasyon para sa “largest, single response” sa COVID-19 sa kasaysayan ng IFRC.

Nagpapasalamat din si Gordon sa suporta ng corporate partners ng PRC at sa dalawang milyon nitong volunteers.

“We have it in us as a country… to meet every challenge, bear every burden or suffering. But when we get together, especial when we have leaders we can follow, and instead of saying it’s not my problem, we say I’ll be part of the solution,” pagtatapos ni Gordon.
